On May 28, 2025, the Ukrainian Energy Exchange held a successful auction for the sale of electricity under bilateral contracts, initiated by the Energoatom-Trading separate subdivision of NNEGC Energoatom. A special feature of this auction was the use of bank guarantees. Valid bank guarantees totaling UAH 700.07 million were submitted for the auction as a financial security instrument.
The auction resulted in 30 winners. The weighted average price was formed at UAH 4848.62/MWh.
“Bank guarantees as a financial instrument are in line with the best European practices and are an important element of contract default risk management in exchange trading. This mechanism helps to reduce the risks of non-fulfillment of bilateral electricity purchase and sale contracts and ensures more predictable and secure procurement planning,” commented Oleksandr Kovalenko, CEO of UEEX.
The Ukrainian Energy Exchange continues to implement modern instruments that promote the development of a transparent and competitive energy market. The use of bank guarantees as one of the key financial support mechanisms confirms compliance with high standards of exchange trading and risk management.
