In March, over 443 thousand cubic meters of untreated timber worth UAH 1.53 billion were sold at the UEEX

The untreated timber market at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange continues to demonstrate efficiency and stable demand from participants. Thus, in March 2025, forestry enterprises sold 443.29 thousand cubic meters of this resource at UEEX auctions for UAH 1.53 billion (including VAT). In particular, we sold 246.87 thousand cubic meters of round timber for a total amount of UAH 1.21 billion (including VAT) and 196.42 thousand cubic meters of firewood for a total amount of UAH 325.19 million (including VAT). The percentage breakdown of untreated timber sales was as follows: 56% - round timber, 44% - firewood.

As a result of the auctions, forestry enterprises received additional income of UAH 219.04 million (including VAT).

Untreated timber was sold in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytsky, and other regions.

As for round timber, pine, spruce and oak were the most sold, with their share in the total structure amounting to 50.59%, 32.67% and 5.27%, respectively. There were also sales of such species as fir, beech, ash, aspen, linden and others.

As for firewood, the vast majority of firewood (76%) was sold for industrial use, while 24% was sold for non-industrial use. Among firewood, pine firewood was in the highest demand, accounting for 57% of the total volume.

Exchange specialists also regularly calculate weekly and monthly weighted average price indices for round timber. This data increases market transparency and serves as a benchmark.

The weighted average price for most round timber decreased compared to last month.

The largest increase was recorded for fir, which reached UAH 4,041.39 per cubic meter (including VAT). One of the main reasons was the increased demand for a higher quality class compared to the previous period.

A completely different price trend was observed for alder. The price of this wood species experienced the largest decline, amounting to UAH 3,254.01 per cubic meter (including VAT). In March, the demand for alder decreased and shifted towards lower quality grades.

“Trades at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange is always open, transparent, competitive and accessible to everyone. The price of raw materials is formed on the basis of the market principle of supply and demand, and therefore is genuine. In March, we had a fairly good performance in sales of unprocessed wood - we sold more than 443 thousand cubic meters of this resource. It should also be noted that the exchange constantly monitors contract fulfillment closely, and currently the contract fulfillment rate is 86%,” said Kostiantyn Shevchuk, UEEX Deputy CEO.
