Sales results of untreated timber at UEEX LLC for February 2025

Last month, auctions at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange for untreated timber showed the following results:

• the volume exhibited amounted to 260.19 thousand cubic meters;
• 221.34 thousand cubic meters of wood were sold;
• the cost of timber sales amounted to UAH 900.44 million (including VAT);
• the state received additional income during the English auction in the amount of UAH 238.44 million (including VAT).

The distribution of untreated timber sales was as follows: 56% - firewood, 44% - round timber.

The State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” sold 216.07 thousand cubic meters of timber. Below is the timber sales schedule by seller group.

In this period, the Carpathian, Podil and Capital forestry offices held quarterly auctions. In total, they sold 157.44 thousand cubic meters worth UAH 755.24 million including VAT.

Round timber

During the reporting period, the company sold 97.75 thousand cubic meters of round timber for a total of UAH 710.16 million (including VAT).

Pine, oak, and birch were the most commonly sold species, with their share in the total structure amounting to 31.73%, 15.81%, and 14.88%, respectively. We also sold alder, spruce, hornbeam, beech, ash, and other species.

Firewood

During the reporting period, the volume of firewood sales amounted to 213.59 thousand cubic meters for the amount of UAH 190.28 million (including VAT).

The vast majority of firewood (86%) was sold for industrial use, while 14% was sold for non-industrial use.

Hardwood firewood was in the highest demand, accounting for 49% of the total volume.

Price indices

Compared to last month, the weighted average prices for most round timber increased. The most significant changes occurred for alder and fir.

The largest price increase was recorded for alder. It currently stands at UAH 5,422.66 (including VAT). One of the reasons for the increase is the quarterly auction for this breed held this month. As a result, the demand for the breed has increased, which has led to competition among buyers.

The opposite situation was faced by the fir species. Its price decreased by 8.4% to UAH 2,939.46 per cubic meter (including VAT). In February, the demand for this wood species decreased and shifted towards quality class D.

Among firewood, the most significant changes were seen in non-industrial firewood of the third group. The price of this product increased the most, showing a 27% increase. It has now reached the level of UAH 1,264.34 per cubic meter (including VAT).

At the same time, the largest price decline was experienced by firewood for non-industrial use of the second group. It showed a 7% decline and currently amounts to UAH 1,203.79 per cubic meter (including VAT). The reason for the downward movement was a decrease in demand for this type of product.
