Sales results of untreated timber at UEEX LLC in January 2025

Last month, auctions at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange for untreated timber showed the following results:

• the exhibited volume amounted to 185.32 thousand cubic meters;
• 62.39 thousand cubic meters of wood were sold;
• the cost of timber sales amounted to UAH 145.86 million (including VAT);
• the state received additional income during the English auction in the amount of UAH 9.37 million (including VAT).

The distribution of untreated timber sales was as follows: 71% - firewood, 29% - round timber.

The State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” sold 58.40 thousand cubic meters of timber. Below is the timber sales schedule by seller group.

Round timber

During the reporting period, the company sold 18.00 thousand cubic meters of round timber for a total amount of UAH 82.45 million (including VAT).

Spruce, pine and oak were the most popular species sold, with their share in the total structure amounting to 39.50%, 21.07% and 16.29%, respectively. We also sold such species as ash, beech, fir, birch, hornbeam and others.

The maximum increase from the starting price was recorded at 109%. Given that the auction step is 1%, the maximum number of steps was 109 for ash, 107 for aspen, and 98 for alder.

Firewood

During the reporting period, the volume of firewood sales amounted to 44.39 thousand cubic meters for the amount of UAH 63.41 million (including VAT).

The vast majority of firewood (79%) was sold for industrial use, while 21% was sold for non-industrial use.

Among firewood, hardwood and coniferous firewood were in the highest demand, accounting for 45% and 21% of total sales, respectively.

Price indices

The most significant changes occurred in such species as birch and oak.

The largest percentage increase in prices was recorded regarding the birch (8%). Currently, it amounts to UAH 3,360.99 (including VAT). The reason for this is the reduction in the volume of wood of this species in the reporting period. Its sales percentage is over 99%. This shows that demand exceeded supply, generating competition among customers.

Oak wood faced the opposite situation. Its price decreased by 30% to UAH 19,925.60 per cubic meter (including VAT). The main reason for this decline was a decrease in demand for the species.

Price indices for firewood increased in the reporting period.

Among firewood, the most significant changes were in the second group of non-industrial firewood. The price of this product increased the most, showing a 20% increase. It has now reached the level of UAH 1,288.01 per cubic meter (including VAT).

At the same time, the smallest price changes were experienced by wood for non-industrial use of the first group. It showed an increase of 6% and currently amounts to UAH 1,250.98 per cubic meter (including VAT).
