Overview of news on the timber market in Europe
Long-term wood development forecast in Germany shows a shift from softwood to hardwood
In Germany, timber supplies are expected to remain stable in the long term, but the structure of forest resources is expected to change - hardwoods, such as beech and oak, will grow significantly, while traditional conifers such as spruce and pine will decline due to climate risks, pests and changing forestry strategies; According to the Thunen Institute’s forecast, by 2062, total timber reserves will recover to their current level after a temporary decline, with the role of climate-resistant mixed plantations increasing.
Exports of softwood lumber from the EU to the US decreased by 19%, in particular due to a decline in Germany and Sweden
