Untreated timber auctions at UEEX LLC showed the following results last week:
- Exhibited volume was 31,58 th. c. m;
- Sold timber 26,68 th. c. m;
- Timber sales value was UAH 116,26 mln. (incl. VAT);
- Forestry farms obtained additional income during English auction for the amount of UAH 23,5 mln. (incl. VAT).
Distribution of untreated timber sales was as follows: 59% – round timber, 41% – firewood.
Untreated timber sale last month took place in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk and other regions.
Round timber
During the reporting period, 15,64 thousand cubic meters of round timber were sold for a total of UAH 94,95 million (including VAT).
The largest share of sales was made of pine, oak and spruce, where the share of their sales in the overall structure was 44,07%, 34,24% and 5,87%, respectively. There was also sales of such species as beech, alder, fir, ash, hornbeam and others.
The average increase from the starting price at English auctions was 20%. Given that the auction step is 1%, the highest average was for ash – 81, red oak – 56, linden – 43.
Firewood
During the reporting period, the volume of firewood sales amounted to 11,04 thousand cubic meters for the amount of UAH 21,31 million (including VAT).
The vast majority of firewood (75%) was sold for industrial use, while 25% was sold for non-industrial use.
Among firewood, pine firewood was in the greatest demand, accounting for 42% of the total volume.

Price indexes
Compared to the previous month, the most noticeable increase in price was observed for birch - the price reached 6294,68 UAH/cubic m with VAT.
In contrast, fir showed a decrease in price to 3480,94 UAH/cubic m with VAT, which is explained by the absence of quarterly trading in the reporting period, unlike last month.

In the firewood segment, the most noticeable increase in price was observed for non-industrial products of the first group, the price of which increased to 2425,35 UAH/cubic m including VAT.
At the same time, wood of the third group experienced the greatest decrease in price - its cost dropped to 1114,59 UAH/cubic m including VAT, which is associated with a decrease in demand for this type of resource.

Södra completed field testing of Logscom inkjet printers for timber marking
Södra together with technology company Logscom tested a new log marking system using an industrial inkjet printer, mounted on a forwarder. The technology replaces traditional roll labels and works entirely from the operator’s cabin, without physical contact with the wood.
Testing results:

Komatsu digital technologies help restore Tenerife forests after massive fire
After a devastating 2023 fire that swept through northern Tenerife, forcing the evacuation of over 26 000 people, landslides and flooding landslides and flooding Komatsu equipment with the Smart Forestry system, a digital platform for precise machine control.

The project has now entered the long-term restoration and fire prevention phase. Komatsu equipment is being used to thin the forests, reduce the amount of combustible biomass and increase the resilience of the trees.
Particular attention is being paid to the Canary Island pine (Pinus canariensis), a species that can recover from fire and strengthen the soil.
Norra Skog first in Sweden to implement the Viol 3 digital wood flow management system
The Swedish forest owners’ association Norra Skog, which unites more than 27000 private forest owners, has become the first organization in the country, to fully integrate the new Viol 3 system, a digital platform for wood flow management. The implementation started in May 2025 and was a key milestone in the digital transformation of the Scandinavian forest industry.
What changes Viol 3
Viol 3 is a new digital infrastructure, that replaces the outdated Viol 2 system, which for decades controlled processes from harvesting to wood processing.
The new version provides:
- full traceability of wood — from the forest to the final product;
- higher data security and fast information exchange between all market participants;
- compliance with EU requirements for certification and sustainable product origin (EUDR).
Industry Transformation Leader
The project required comprehensive preparation: adapting internal processes, training staff and maintaining stability for wood suppliers. According to project manager Sophie Dahlen Schoberg, the key to success was teamwork and clear organization without disruptions in daily operations. Biometria, the developer of the Viol 3 system, has hailed Norra Skog as a model for the rest of the market. According to its CEO Ingela Ekebro, the move to the new platform has been “the most significant change in the history of the Swedish forest industry.”
